Serial shoplifter is refused bail

22/07/2008 11:59:00 PM
A WENDOUREE woman accused of numerous shoplifting offences sobbed as she was refused bail in Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard Skye Lee Donaldson, 20, allegedly stole a $16.95 cocktail ring from Central Square on Monday while on four counts of bail for other shoplifting offences.

Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Damon Saunders said Donaldson was charged with five counts of shoplifting and two counts of trespassing on July 15 and bailed to live with her mother.

The following day Donaldson was arrested again for allegedly trespassing at Stockland Wendouree.

Sen Const Saunders said Donaldson had been found with a large bag of clothes worth about $300 which were believed to be stolen.

The court heard Donaldson had also been bailed in April 24 and on July 4 this year on shoplifting offences.

Donaldson's mother told the court she had been unable to supervise her daughter on bail because of her own health problems.

The court heard Donaldson had been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and was receiving medication for heroin withdrawal.

Donaldson yesterday sat with her head in her hands through most of the bail application.

Sen Const Saunders opposed bail arguing Donaldson was an unacceptable risk of re-offending.

Ms Stewart told Donaldson she had refused to grant her bail because she had continued to re-offend.

"I'm also extremely concerned about your presentation, you're at risk to yourself," Ms Stewart said.

Donaldson was remanded in custody to reappear in Ballarat Magistrates Court on August 4.
