THICK fog and driver error are being blamed for a car accident in Gillies St yesterday morning.
The accident happened outside the entrance to the Ballarat Aquatic Centre about 8.45am when one car ran into the rear of another.
Ballarat Traffic Management Unit Sergeant Stuart Gale said both cars were towed from the scene, and a 24-year-old Wendouree woman has been charged on summons for driving while suspended and careless driving.
Paramedics attended the scene but there were no injuries.
Meanwhile police also blitzed several school zones as part of an on-going operation.
Sgt Gale said about 16 people were booked for speeding in Gillies and Victoria streets.
The highest recorded speed was by a 32-year-old man who narrowly avoided losing his licence after he was allegedly travelling at 66kmh. During school zone hours the speed is set at 40kmh.
"There was several offences for excessive speed and in a lot of cases there was no headlights on," Sgt Gale said. "For people to be going at excessive speeds in the school zones, with no headlights on in the fog is just ridiculous."
